It would be great to have a new dual track french immersion elementary school in Lakeshore Woods. I hesitated to send my son to JK at Gladys Speers given the old state of the school but I really had no choice as the schools in the area were old. I figure that the board has probably lost a few kids to other alternatives for this very reason. Bathrooms are not nice and lime build up everywhere…no little toilets in the bathrooms in the JK/SK classes and I had them when I was little and I am 40!! For hygiene reasons it would be nice to have a toilet that they didn’t have to touch with any body part when visiting the bathroom. Plans for a new school for North Oakville was discussed at the Long Term Accommodation plan meeting last week??? Why? Those guys are not closing until late 2012 and the following Spring according to the 2 “kidless” friends of ours that purchased Rosehaven in the North end! We have been living in Lakeshore Woods for 8 plus years and no mention of a school until now. Seems unfair? When I first started my quest for info. about a potential new school in Lakeshore Woods…they said sorry the homes are high value and no kids live in your neighbourhood? Well I think they are mistaken because there are several hundred school aged kids and hundreds of pre-school aged kids that live there! AND, if there are no kids in our neighbourhood, there surely cannot be that many young kids in the older neighbourhoods of Gladys Speers and Eastview? I think that trends show that the newer home areas attract young families from my marketing data and research. I hope that the board will reconsider their doubts about the validity of a new school for our children in Lakeshore Woods as it would be very conveninent for the hundreds of families that live in our area & a great draw for parents in the surrounding areas also…a very exciting idea that all families can have access to an updated & clean & new place to send their children 5 days a week for 10 years!! Well worth it in my opinion!! Lakeshore Woods needs a new french immersion school.
