Disney Star/Iroquois Ridge High School Alumnus Jasmine Richards will unveil bullying prevention music video
Video shoot took place at Oakville school and will be unveiled Friday, March 9, 2012

A pop music video recently staged at Iroquois Ridge High School in Oakville will officially premier at the Glenashton Drive building this week.

Iroquois Ridge High School students recently participated in a bullying prevention video music shoot at their school with actress/singer and alumnus Jasmine Richards. Her credits include roles in Disney’s Camp Rock and Naturally Sadie. The video will be unveiled at a school assembly at the Oakville high school starting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012. Richards will be in attendance, as will other important guests.

The approximately 120 students who participated in the video are members of a diverse range of school clubs including GSA, Culture Shock, the Wellness Team, members of the Safe Schools Action Team and Dance Club. Students auditioned before fellow students to take part in the video.

The script has been a collaborative effort between about a dozen students and Richards.

“The message to students is ‘you have the power – and we have the power – to stop bullying,’” says Principal Deb Robinson. “Iroquois Ridge High School is proud to join forces with Jasmine Richards to send an inspirational message through a powerful bullying prevention music/video production.”

Director David Euale’s recommendations for adjustments to the NW Oakville elementary school boundaries in Report 12036 Elementary Boundary Review ERA 114 and ERA 115 (NW Oakville) will be presented to the Halton District School Board at the upcoming Wednesday, March 7, 2012 meeting. On Wedneday, March 21, 2012, the board will make a decision regarding this recommendation, which alleviates many of the accommodation pressures at schools in Ward 4 and creates two new French immersion centres in the community. The report can be found in the HDSB March 7, 2012 Agenda Package by going to the HDSB website (www.hdsb.ca) and following the Board Agendas & Minutes link from the Boardroom & Trustees page.

Boundary Review Information

A boundary review committee (BRC) of staff and 16 parent representatives from the eight affected school communities participated in the review process. Documentation of the process, minutes of the committee meetings, as well as all the materials used in evaluating scenarios and developing the BRC’s recommendations to the steering committee and the director are available on the HDSB North West Oakville Elementary Schools Boundary Review webpage. There may also be additional analysis of the process and scenarios on school council webpages. Quick links to the NW Oakville elementary school webpages can be on the WOFOS West Oakville Schools tab above.

The meeting, which will be held in the Board Room at the J.W. Singleton Centre on Guelph Line in Burlington, will start at 6:00 PM and may go as late as 10:00 PM. If, after reading the Director’s report and reviewing the information available online, you would like to make a presentation to the board, you will need to register your delegation with the Manager of the Director’s Office by or before noon on March 13, and send your presentation by 4:00 PM on Thursday.
