In the Halton District School Board we have aligned our assessment, evaluation and reporting practices with the provincial policy established in 1998. Like other Ontario school boards, we continue to work with principals and teachers to ensure this policy is implemented and that our classroom practice provides fair and equitable evaluation.
Students are evaluated on two aspects of learning: student achievement of curriculum expectations, and learning skills (work habits, organization skills, etc). You are probably familiar with the two parts of the report card by now. Student achievement of curriculum expectations is reported as an alphabetic or numeric grade. Student learning skills are reported as E-excellent, G-good, S-satisifactory or N-needs improvement. Comments regarding a student’s strengths, weaknesses and next steps are provided for both aspects of learning.
